As businesses in the Lake District struggle to recover after the floods, bonkers Allerdale District Council plans a massive hike in car parking charges. Please sign the petition.
Have your say about increased car parking charges
Dear Mr Bainbridge,
Allerdale Borough Council plans to significantly increase the cost of parking, extend the hours when charges apply and introduce an overnight charge. Here at Theatre by the Lake, we’re deeply concerned about what this will mean for us. Did you know that if you arrive at 7pm to see a play, it would cost you £5 to park in the Lakeside car park?
What are the changes?
- Hikes in car parking prices will range from a minimum of 15% to a maximum of 40%
- The hours of charge will change from (currently) 8.00am – 7.00pm to (proposed) 7.00am – 9.00pm
- The introduction of an overnight fee will mean a £2.00 charge after 9pm
- A yearly single town permit will increase from £100 to £400 (300% increase)
- A yearly all town permit will increase from £290 to £500 (72% increase)
Parking is now free after 7pm, but the council proposes that thatregoers attending an evening show will have to pay £3.00 to cover the period from 7-9pm and a further £2.00 after 9pm, a total charge of £5.00.
Why should I help?
We’re concerned about the significant impact these proposals will have on our supporters, our volunteers and staff. We receive no annual funding from Allerdale Borough Council and therefore don’t benefit directly or indirectly from any increase in revenue from Lakeside car park.
What can I do?
We need your help to make your views known both officially and publicly.
The council would like people and businesses to comment on their proposal by answering seven questions via their consultation document. Please fill it in so that your views are heard by Allerdale.
But we’d also like as many people as possible to sign our petition to publicly show their suport to stop these proposals, which will damage TBTL and other Keswick businesses.
Is there anything else I can do to help?
Please share this e-mail with your friends or anyone else you think might be affected by these proposals and ask them to lend their support to our campaign. These changes will inevitably have a negative effect on Theatre by the Lake and we have to do everything we can to stop them becoming a reality.
Thank you for your support and I wish you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
